Initially, when I first had them I'd gone away for a week and had my roommate feeding the tank. He overfed like mad (and I have no idea how he overfed to the level he did) and they must have gone from ~10 to 500 in the weeks time. At this point, they were a pest and were a serious problem.
Now in a much larger tank with over a dozen (botia) loaches, they're just food. I've picked "pest snails" up from the LFS before and thrown them in. They never last more than a day.
