I bought some planets from my LFS then the next day i found some snails in the tank. Are the snails good for the tank, i would like to keep mine. Could someone give me some information about them please.

Thanks
Ryan

you might regret keeping them as they dont half multiply wait a few days and you will have loads

Ok thanks, is there any benfits or disadvanges apart from there being loads.

What planets? Mars? just kidding.. typo just made me laugh. I've promised the missus the earth, so could do with your LFS hehe.

It's not all that bad, I didn't find they built up too too much, and they did my tank no harm..

I used to just syphon them up with any eggs (you will see little jelly like patches of them) when i did a water change. If you have trouble doing this, i have heard of people putting a lettuce leaf in the tank for the snails, then just liftling the leaf out later on with all the snails on.

Cheers

I actually bought two snails (99 cents each) when I had my 20 gallon. I know realize people will give them to you for free (most will, anyway). Some people like them, some don't. They don't harm, but will eat a little algae. They reproduce fast, but if you like the idea, try it. I actually accidently killed mine by putting aquarium salt (I put a little too much in my 20 gallon, and keep in mind this was a freshwater tank). Salt and snails don't seem to mix. Keep this in mind if you are trying to get rid of them.

I've never found snails to be a particular issue - just consider them part of the tank ecosystem unless you see them munching on live plants. In my tanks every pest snail seems to slowly die off except for ramshorns (which maintain a small population) and Malaysian Trumpet Snails (which I probably have several hundred of). Since I went down to feeding my tank once per day the snail population has really taken a nose dive. I'm satisfied.

lol Depends on which sort of snails. If they're pond snails, get rid of em! They dun do any good and have literally taken over my tank in the past as well as clogged the fiter ><

If they're Maylaysian Trumpet snails or any other varieties, research them on the web and see if they'll be beneficial to your tank. Malaysian Trumpet snails are very useful when turning over sand and things like that.

ive got snales in both of my tanks and they have never multiplyed to a big exptent, and i like them, adds a little more varyed diet for my dwarf gourami who likes to eat them

yeah i've never had a snail problem in either of my tanks but thats due to the dwarf puffer in one tank and some clown loachs in the other

to be honest i would keep them although if you have nothing in there to eat them they may get out of control. What ever you do dont buy anything to kill them!
