Snails

I just set up a new 55g tank and we got some nice snails in at work. The three kinds are labeled Golden snails. Wich are the smallest in size. We also had giant black snails. and some blue snails. I cant find any infor on them. not even google! The black snails I bought look like Apple snails, but my boss told me they wernt as they are now illegal here in sacramento.

Yeah.. Apple and Mystery snails have been outlawed. I've seen the Japanese Trap Door Snails being marketed more heavily lately in the USA. http/www.pondkoi.com/trapdoor_snails.htm

Yeah.. Apple and Mystery snails have been outlawed. I've seen the Japanese Trap Door Snails being marketed more heavily lately in the USA.

They're not really outlawed, you just need a permit to transport them. Or maybe they are banned in some states, I don't keep up. PoPoV sounds like he's got apples (mysteries) though, judging on the colors.

I've seen the Trapdoors appearing more often on eBay and Aquabid, usually at pretty ridiculous prices.

Best thing to do is get a good few photos of the snails, both in and out of water. When you take photos out of water, take them of lots of different views so we can see the whole snail. Get good photos, and we should be able to identify them for you.

If they are gold, black, and blue, they probably are apple snails.
