good or bad for the tank?

ive just set up a new tank and found that one of my plants i purchased had a snail with it, started off really tiny and is growing pretty quickly after only a few days

good or bad for the tank?

at the moment it seems to be chomping my plant up a bit, but im looking at replacing them in a few weeks anyway

Well they have their goods and bads. Can reproduce quickly dpending on the type of snail you have. However they are a good cleaner upper of left over food. They will however eat your live plants often. So if you have live plants I would not get them, as they love their greens.

yeah I have snails in my tank too with live plants. Is there away to kill them?

sounds like pond snails or the other funky brown ones i dont know the name of lol they are hermaphrodites and as such repeatedly breed until there are so many snails you cant see the tank. might i suggest a clown loach or something else that will eat them? either that or try some snail away

its now gone the size of a full stop to the size of the letter o on the keyboard in less than a week

its got a see through shell in places, and has a sort of tortoise markings on it

If it's eating your plants, and you've only got one (you won't have for long :hyper: ), why don't you get it out the tank?

he might only have one that he can see. hes better off trying to deal with the problem now rather than be fighting an ongoing battle. im almost positive there will be more than one he just hasnt seen them yet

They are a pest - others consider them not so, but wait until you are picking 30-40 of the sods out per week and come back and tell me they are 'cute' then!

Get it out if I were you. Now. Kill an infestation of them using 'Flubenol 15' - worked for me. I would not use standard snail killing products as they are based on copper and I consider that a poison.

well, woke up this morning and i now have 2 snails in my tank, so out they went into a really small tank so they can populate in there(ill be using them as food at a later date)

DO NOt get a clown loach unless you have a really big tank, there are smaller snail eating loaches you can get, how many galons is you tank, or you could always put a piece of lettuce in the tank overnight then remove it and the snails should be on there :good:

the good news is, i still only have 2, and they have been seperated and put in a different tank

you can spend ages trying to take each one out or just get snail killers eitherfish which eat them or use a chemical which should be in ur lfs.

i have loads of pond snails in mine the good thing is the tank is spotless its only 5 gal and is infested. at first i thought they were apple snail babies because when i got the apple snail i saw a small one on it.
