After you do take a few I suggest that you breed them yourself in a tank with plenty of melafix and mabey even some primafix. then move the eggs to a new tank and sterilize the old one and then start feeding the snails to your puffer so as to minimize the risk of contamination.

That's what I was going to say. I plan on harvesting some snails of my own from a local cottage, and I would wait AT LEAT one generation before feeding the snails to my fish. I would advise, however, waiting three or even four, while removing eggs into a new tank/container each time.
