I'm about to start my fishless cycling (tomorrow) and noticed that I got a snail in my 10g tank! I added an aqua fern a week ago so I'm guessing that is where this snail came from. What is worse is that there are webs on my aqua fern, on my small "barrerl" decoration and on the 2 artifical plants! The snail is on the artifical plants right now. Has he done this?

YUK! Dow can I get rid of the webing? Just pluck the plant out and clean it? How do I dispose of the snail? Flush into the toliet?

The web sounds like a fungal mycelieum, sort of tendril. (like the body snatchers-remember the film) The only way to rid them is to disinfect the items. You can buy a special disinfectant for aquariums. Just make sure after disinfection all the items are throughly rinsed, preferably in salt water.(aquarium salt) and then fresh. Snail eggs are hard to destroy, so make sure the decorations and artifical plants are soaked in really hot salted water.(just be careful you don't scald yourself)
If you have "real" plants, just steep them in luke warm salted water and gently rub the leaves upwards and outwards. This will ensure anything sticking on the leaves will come away. Rinse the plant throughly in clean water before returning to the tank.

I just get the snails out with my net and throw them on my lawn.
If snails do have adrenal glands then being tossed onto my lawn at 60mph would surely be worth dying for the rush alone!!!

Thanks Dragonslair and all...

I'm going to upload some images of what the webbing looks like.

Okay here are some images of the "web like" stuff that grew on my artifical plant and the LIVE aqua fern plant.

I took out the artifical plant to clean it and get rid of the webs and I disturbed the gravel and ALL this "little stuff" came out from the gravel! I'm not sure what is is? Garbage??? As I moved more of the gravel more of it apeared! The only thing in the tank for the last 2 weeks has been the snail. I have yet to begin the fishless cycle.

I have also posted something else I'm at a loss for. This water looks dirty... =( Should I just dump it all out and start with a new batch before I start with the fishless cycle? I was planning on starting with the fishless cycle 2 weeks ago but "life" has gotten in the way!
