So... I am from the US. I live in Mississippi near Pickwick lake. Well... I've always saw what I considered a pond snail at the river... (though we do have the normal pond snail) the ones I am talking about, I can't seem to find on the internet anywhere.. they have the trumpet shape. Though they are not rippled or twisted. Just a smooth come shape.... any idea?! I could possible get pictures of just the shells. Because I have those in my tanks.... just curious what they are really called.

Around an inch? Some maybe a little bigger and some smaller.

A pic or two of the snails you describe would be most helpful.

From the sound of it, sounds like MTS or Rabbit snails but these have conical twists on shell.....

Pleurocera canaliculatum
Couldn't get my picture to upload...
But I found them! I don't know that they have a common name?

Thats cool you found them, hmm seems you're right, no common name!

Interesting though.

I find those more on the lake side of Pickwick. And then more pond snails on the river side.
I had put some in my five gallon (risky I know). But that tank was a disaster when I had my pleco and guppies init! So.... they all died. But my sister has had a few in her 150 gallon for a long time now. And no problems! They don't seem to multiply like the pond snails (though I don't think they are as attractive!) But I would suggest them be used for aquarium use! No over population problems! Lol.

wow, you mean you had a pleco and guppies in a 5 gal tank!

Anyway, sound cool! Hope it works out and do post a pic or two if you get a chance.

Ha... I know right! Husband brought him home one day (after we decided to get our two year old a tank last Christmas)... two mistakes right there! Which is how I ended up with three tanks! Guppies and pleco are now in a 55 gallon... and betta has taken over the five gallon!
If I can ever get photos uploaded on here from my phone, I will sure post them!
When summer comes, I might try and get a few of the snails and try it now that they won't be in a "biohazard" tank!

Sound like you went through a steep learning curve right there

Sounds good.

Well... I noticed "gator" was getting pretty big... and I grew attached to him. And did a whole bunch of research and when gator got stuck in squidward's house (tank decoration) one day, I was on the hunt for a bigger tank! Lol.
