So there's this snail that a got a LONG time ago as a hitchhiker and i just not realized it kinda looks like a Nassarius snail, its small (3/4 inch after a year), has 2 "antenae", a "trunk" nose, same shell shape, and same body. The only difference i can find is that the body is narrower, its red, the nose isn't as long as my other Nassarius, and it eats.... ALGAE! (correct me if im wrong, but i thought nassarius snails dont eat algae)

EDIT: i see a few more. And also, a nother difference, their shell is white, not brown

Yup, Nassarius snalis do NOT eat algae. They eat carrion/detritus :)

:good:

I forgot conches had the long nose =] i agree, i think its a conch

thanks Ski =]

Anyone know what species? Its been really small for a long time

Doesn't look like a conch to me...might be some sort of Columbellid. The "nose" on true conches (Strombiidae) is the mouth, but the snail pictured looks to have its mouth on the glass and a long siphon projecting out the front of the shell.

Edit: A page with some decent Columbellid info and pics (although none with a red foot...shell shape is pretty similar though): http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-07/rs/index.php also has a conch pic for comparison.

Ohhhh I didn't know that was the mouth o_O thanks for the info

and looking at the picture, looks exactly like it =] (other then the redness/purpleness)

Thanks =]
