this came with some second hand sand i got for one of my tanks
been trying to ID them, i thought they were pond snails but they don't quite look right

pretty hard to photograph, but managed to get 1 good one.

i've found 10. they're all only about 5mm at the moment, and move lightning fast!

I have a few of these in my 8g tank, though the eggs are alway eaten so I don't have a problem with them, they clean up left overs etc.

From what i've found of these things you'll soon have loads of them. They can lay a new batch of eggs almost every other day.

Do you know if they eat plants?

They havent eaten any of my plants.

That's good I haven't noticed mine eating any, i'll leave them be as a clean up crew.
