Hi Peeps,

Great site!! Ive visited here for loads of info but couldnt find a direct answer for this question so thought id better post.

Back groudn info.

I have a 3foot by 2 foot tank with the following fish

8 neons
2 Silver Sharks (yes I know how big they can get)
2 peppered Corydoras
3 Gouramis

I have just this second found my first little baby snail in the tank!!!! :/ How did he get there? Where do they come from? and should I be worried about this find? I have removed the little guy already!

Any info much appreciated!! :D thanks

Any live plants, if so you should sterlise them before adding them to the tank, just remove them.

awww so this little guy hitched a ride with the plants in my tank!! I was so shocked to see him and couldnt work out how he just appeared lol

Well too late to sterlise plants now but ill watch for anymore. i would have thought snails would have appeared by now if i had any as plants have been in for a while how long do they take to hatch if there is eggs?

I have a very tame community tank so i dont imagine any of my fishes will eat snails so ill need to get them out myself if i see anymore i may try the cucumber trick!!

Thanks glad to be here!!

Also try the plants forum they will help you, further down the board, good luck.

Yes, you can get over run with them.

Ive noticed some white slitherly lines attached to my plants I just thought these were waste food and poop from my fishes could these possibly be snail eggs? what do snail eggs look like? I cant find any pics on the net but im worried these white lines on my plants could be more snails :(

You better keep a close eye on them cause when I got my first fish tank a couple dozen snails were on the plants when I bought them. They started reproducing rapidly and I couldnt get rid of them. So I just started to put my hand in there and crush them whenever I saw one. I eventually wiped them all out within 2 weeks :grr:. Now with my 20 gal. Ive only killed 1, there is another big one but he somehow got sucked up in the underground filter. I think that hes still up there but attached to the glass, Im suprised that he lived so long.

Oh god hope I don't end up overrun with them have found one more so far so only two since i discovered them.

I know for a fact I couldnt swish them :*) I'll leave that job for my partner :D if we find anymore.

I think LFS should advise you that plants could have snails on them when you are buying them as I didnt find this out until the plants where already in or I would have sterlised them!

I had the same problem, i got a few come in the the live plants. I started picking them out on every water change but now i cant be bothered. My danios like plucking them of the glass anyway, which id fun to watch. :p

I noticed small snails for the first time jsut a few days ago on plants that are about a month old.

Ive been keeping a eye out on them, but Ive noticed small bits of algae appearing, mostly on the fence I have seperating my 2 Bettas where the snails have been spending the most time. Is the algae becuase of the snails??

HI :D

could i ask whats the cucumber thing is does it get rid of snails?

thanks
