I am leaning towards setting up a West African riverine biotope and need some help choosing fish to carry out certain roles.

Main fish will be a pair of Pelvicachromis Taeniatus, with some Yello tail Congo Tetras acting as dithers.

The tank is a 180l rio with lots of plants and bogwood. PH is 6.5 and GH is 90ppm.

I need a fish that will keep the snails under control, but not outgrow the tank. They need to fit into the biotope. Also need some algae eaters as well.

The obvious answers are some loaches and a pair of BNs, but these don't fit in with the biotope I am seeking.

Any ideas?

How about otos? Would they work? They're rather small but are great fun. I have some in with my golden gouramies, angel and baby synos and they all get on well.
Hugs,
P.

Unfortunately they are S American and I am trying to keep it West African, or at the least African.

Looks like I'm gonna have to forget it and just go with BNs and loaches.

Oh well

Can't use Clowns as the tank is only 180l, don't want to have to return anything to the fish store in the future.

Zebra loaches are looking like the favourite at the moment.

After an hour of research, I've found Cobitis maroccana which is a loach from North and North East Africa.

Unfortunately it's highly endangered and is a protected species so It's unlikely to be found in the hobby.
