my tank is starting to smell not too badly at the moment can only really smell it when the lid is open i do partial water changes how can i prevent this smell from getting worse?

it may be time to rinse out your filter media in old tank water
as waste rots it starts to smell really bad

also keep doing water changes

A kind of warm, moist, plant like smell is perfectly normal, especially from your filter. If it smells more like ammonia (urine type smell) then that's not so good.

Need to know:

1. stats for ammonia, nititrite, nitrate.
2. Size of tank.
3. Temp
4. current stock.
5. how you cycled tank before adding fish.
6. feeding regime.
7. maintainence regime
