i have a new 2nd hand tank. it is very smeary in places. how do i get rid of this? ive tried white vinegar. it cleared alot of the lime scale but not the white smear on glass. when i dampen a cloth and wipe it, it looks as if its gone, but when it dries it back again.

is it possible to get rid of these marks??

Sounds very unusual.

Tried very diluted bleach?
Make sure to rinse off very well afterwards.

Or even salt might help, ordinary table salt?
Again, be sure to rinse extremely well.

Is the mark on the inside or outside of the tank?
inside the tank. it looks like limescale. but it looks like its never been cleaned. i brought it for cheap with cabinet. but didnt notice that until i got home.

We just cleaned our tanks the best we could and filled them up when they had those marks..it only appears when dry and since it's going to be filled with water..you don't really need to worry about it :p

Sorry that's not very helpful, hope someone finds something that works for it.

when i tried to clean it . it dissappeared. but came back when dried so i did think this. thankyou for your reply. hope it will go when there is water in it. :)

I have this same "film" on my tank, which I got secondhand. I believe it is slight etching of the glass perhaps from hard water, as it has resisted all attempts to clean it. I've tried very fine steel wool, razor blades, Mr. Clean Magic Erasers, polishing scrubbers, toothpaste, vinegar, scrubbing until my arms fell off. I gave up and realized it doesn't matter, since the tank at least looks nice and clear when filled with water. It "disappears" as soon as it's wet, so it must be etching that's just hidden when the water fills in the spaces.
