Smallest Tank Size

3 Uk gallons but the smallest is enough water for them to be covered. I have been to the thai breeding factories and seen them in that much water and still breeding.

Yes, but that's for breeding. If you research when and in what conditions bettas breed, they breed right before monsoon season when the water levels are the lowest in their natural habitats. If you have the water level deeper than a few inches, they're less likely to breed because the conditions aren't right. Generally speaking, though, their natural habitat is relatively shallow pools (nothing deeper than 18" as their swim bladder is not designed to cope with the higher water pressure found in deeper water)...not puddles, which is what "enough water for them to be covered" equates to.

This is breeding and keeping I bought betta in Thailand in a jam jar from the farm. I have caught wild bettas in padi's much deeper then 18" at my grandparents home, perhaps the reason why they are not common in such pools is because they are food for carp in the wild which normally live in the larger padi's. Not because of insufficient swim bladder after all like humans fish are mainly water so pressure has a relative effect over time so the swim bladders can adjust given enough time for ascent and descents.

oh no, found Blueberry with nipped fins today  I saw the swordtail asserting himself too, and Blueberry hid in a plant  So hes gotta come out. He cant go in the 90l coz thats now the quarantine tank. What was the quarantine tank is available, but i need to sterilise everything.

If someone can give me a link on how to thoroughly sterilise a filter (fluval 2 plus) and tank, it would be appreciated. 60l is too big though, so gonna get a smaller tank and put him in there. As soon as (if ever!) the mollies get bbetter they'll go back in the big tank and i'll sell the 90l, much as i love it!

I have mine in a 3 gallon tank he seem's happy enough anything smaller just too hard to maitain water qualities
