Hey,

I am NOT asking this question because im going to make a 5 gallon marine. I was just wondering after browsing through the species index if anything would fit in a 5 gallon?

Not really...It would be too risky to add any livestock since parameters can change pretty quickly in a 5gallon tank. Saltwater keepers usually use pico tanks like that for coral frags.

Yeh 5G is too small for a marine tank. You could may do a freshwater set-up. Dwarf Puffer...

yeh im gonna do a fw setup but i was just wondering in the long run what it can be used for as i get more and more used to marine! Looks like ill be putting frags in there!

What are you planning to put in the FW set-up?

ADFs and endlers
or
Betta and ADFs

my lfs dont do dwarf puffers

You could have some shrimp?? Amano shrimp, Bumble Bee shrimp, Cherry shrimp, Ghost shrimp are just a few that you could have.

Here is a link

You could put an N. wennerae or G. Smithii mantis shrimp in a 5gal :D

(question not answer)
Ski, do those mantis's need acrylic tanks or are they not strong enough to break glass/tempered glass/starfire?

Usually they strike the bottom glass while digging a burrow... So the easiest way to protect is by putting down a sacrificial sheet of plexiglass inside the tank that covers the whole bottombefore filling with sand. This way shrimp encounters plexi, tries to smash plexi. Probably breaks plexi, but can't move it. Gets frustrated and stops digging. Seems to be the way most mantid keepers protect their tanks. In reality, very few choose to even try to break the bottom glass, so while their reputation may lead you to believe they're destructive smashing machines, the reality is they rarely even try it.

Five gallons is plenty of space to have a marine aquarium, and have a small fish. But....you have to have some prior experiance setting up a saltwater tank. I would have been lost if I set up my 3 gallon tank before my 20 gallon.
