I am going to get a 125 gallon aquarium for my 3 red oscars and am going to try to turn my 30 that they were in into a coldwater marine tank. This way i can get specimens such as young mullet, pompano, and red drum from the beach to keep in the 30 and then reteun them when they get too big. Do you think that this will work out? If so, do you have any tips or experience with coldwater marine aquariums?
thanks

That is not going to be easy. I don't think they will live if you get them from the ocean. Also for cold water your going to need a water chiller (expensive).
If you have never had a marine (SW) tank, I would not start with what you plan on doing. Get a good book on marine reef setups and if you still want to do this...Well good luck. IMO, fist timers to SW should start with a fish only tank and work your way up. If you do decide to do it, it will be allot easier to keep in your 125g then your 30g.

Good luck

i know. i've researched very much on marine aquariums and i understand the difficulty of keeping a small salt water tank. I'm going to try. It might work out.

Well if you have your mind set, then go for it. If you have anymore questions just ask. :)
Good luck

well the beach gets pretty warm and pompano and tarpon like warmer waters. maybe i'll just get some of them or fish that prefer or can tolerate tropical saltwater. I live in NC and the climate stays pretty average year round.
