Small Invertebrate And Corals?

Hey, i just started a nano ( http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=115184 ), and I was wondering what I could keep in it.
Its a 10G.
The guy at my lfs said i could keep button polyurps?
I'd like to keep snail and shrimp, and some nice looking soft corals.

Hey Ethos! Did you make it to the TCMAS frag swap? I was unable to, I had to work. If you want to stop by I can frag you up a couple of cool leathers, maybe some mushrooms, some zoanthids, we'll see what you like.

No, never even heard of it!
You own a shop?
I've never done any sort of event, even a fish show.
I'm not very well conected in my local fishkeeping world, them most I've done with other people in my area is meet OA and talk to lotsa' different fishroom workers.
Whats your favorite fish store in our are?
I got to HarMar,
World Of Fish (Not the one in Duluth)
Many Petco's,
and this small FW only one in my neighborhood.

TCMAS stands for Twin Cities Marine Aquarium Society, the club had a frag swap on Saturday, and the monthly meeting is this coming Saturday. I don't own a shop, but have a couple of reef tanks running here at my house. I also run the tanks at Rainforest Cafe in the Mall of America working under the Curator there. Let me know if you would be interested in getting some frags, I live in Lakeland.

I've never been there, but some of my friends have gone there, and they say its kinda a attraction for little kids?
I hate to make myself sound like a child, but I'll have to talk to my parents about your offer.
I'll have to Check out the club, I just joined a forum where I'll learn a little more about it.
Thanks for telling me though!

It's not really a place t hat caters only to kids (it has a large bar) but kids do like it, we have over 7,000 gallons of fish only tanks, it is a very cool place to go and eat (the food is great, I'm not lying) and unlike many of the other rainforest cafes around the country, we actually have well stocked healthy tanks.

Hmhm, I should check it out.
You said its in MOA, right? Or is there another?
We go there prolly once a month, I'll check it out next time..

As long as u have the right light, u can keep anything that doesnt get too big if thats what ur asking, like corals dont need lots of space to feel comfortable like fish do. Id recommend{4 beginners} slipper/tongues, brains{almost all} bubbles, feather dusters, mushrooms, and xenias. None of these guys need too strong of water flow if u dont have powerheads.

I guess that I'd have to disagree with the LPS (bubbles, brains,) as good beginner corals. They can be quite finnicky when it comes to flow, and CAN be placed too close to each other and reach over and sting others. Bubble corals are one type of LPS that definitely should not be trusted, I have seen them contort in amazing ways to sting other corals.

Agree with Superman.....I think you need a few miles under the belt before adding them if you don't want to lose out on your investment. One of my contacts had a bubble coral kill one of his fish...it settled down near it and it closed up on it. SH

Hey Ethos

Have a look on Live Aquaria at the Polys, Mushrooms & Soft Corals

Most of these will be suitable for your tank, but definatly stay away from SPS & LPS as they do require a good bit more attention and arnt really suitable for beginners

If it is color you are after have a look for Ricordea Yuma & Ricordea Florida's - very nice Muchies & very easy to look after, a bit more expensive than you bog standard muchies but well worth it

(I just paid 60.00 UK Pounds for 3 but you guys get them a lot cheaper over your side of the pond)

:D :D

Yeah its very important to place bubbles far away from others and observe them when the lights go off to see how far they extend their tentacles. From what ive read numerous times, brains are easy to keep but can have enormous sweepers that come out at night. A lot of corals need lots of space, but then again brains arent soft either like u were talking about.

I've been looking on liev aquaria, and I'm concered about things growing too big? I like plate corals, but I think those grow too big.
I have one perfer (and I mean PERFECT) spot for a coral of some kinda, although its only 4-5" wide...
Its elevated, so its closer to the light...I'm excited to put something there.
In less than 11 days, it'll be a month since I started my nano. I'm going to add the clean-up crew sometimes next week. Exciting!
So I'd like a condy amone, I heard these are the best invertabrea for begginers in corals, although not necessarily nanos?
