Hi, I posted this question on the beginners section not realising that there was a hardware section. I have a Fluval 1 in my 4 gallon hospital tank but the flow of water is a bit strong for such a wee tank, 16"w, 8"d, 8"h, especially if there are ailing fish in it.
Is there a smaller filter or one with lesser flow. Someone suggested a small Serra Filter, which could be a bit noisy, is there anything else out there? I tried to find the small serra filter on google but not entirely sure what I'm looking for, size wise or price! Any help gratefully received. Thanx Xanthe

Look at the pinned thread for a DIY sponge filter. Sponge filters are great for small tanks and even if you have fry.

Hi, I did see that home made pump and I did think it was ideal...BUT I have no idea how to build it.
I followed the instructions and I got the first few; pot. hose with 4 notches into pot and fill with gravel. Then I got lost. What is the thing with the blue bit on it and where does the air pump come into it? Is an air pump the same as a filter wot you put in a fish tank?
Sorry not technically minded, have to ask husband to set the video. Xanthe the inept

i bought 2 new small filters from here just a week ago for my new betta tanks, one is adjustable.the elite mini i think.
check this link, has some good internal small filters.i bought a elite mini and a interpet pf mini, both were quite cheap and are quite quiet. dont know how good the filtration is though.

Hi Danny, Sorry to say I couldn't get your link to open. Will try again as i'm no Bill Gates but if you could check at your end as well, I would be grateful.
May I compliment you on your choice of literature from your tag. You have picked a particularily fine edition...long live Bill Waterson. Though another fine title is Homicidal, Psycho, Jungle Cat. Xanthe

try this one now..filters
