Hello. Can anyone recomend a small crap for a FW tank. Its 30g, and i have the current fish (see sig). I seen some at my (not so local) fish store, £1.50 they were, walked sideways (but wait, dont all crabs?), looked like a run of the mill crab to me.
Also, if you suggest one, i'd need to know size (preferably the smallest possible), and if they have any special needs, i.e diet, and shelter etc.
Thanks.

I think you need to direst this question at the freshwater enthusiasts as this is soley a saltwater forum. I keep many different types of inverts but i sadly have no idea about the requirements of freshwater crabs.

Perhaps one of the salt water members can help but you might get a faster responce with the freshwater section.

uuuuum, I'm not that sure, but any crab will probably die or eat your fish

You have almost deffinately seen asian red-clawed craps. Totally FW crabs, need some accessible dry land to get out of the water whenever they want. They can eat fish and will certainly try to attack any that are unaware..

Oops, i posted in the wrong section, only just realised this is saltwater invertebrates, could someone move this topic please?

Bunjiweb - These crabs were in a full tank of water, no where dry, is this not suitable, as if it isnt then i wont purchase one as i wouldnt be able to have an area with no water.

99% of fish shops keep them in full aquatic conditions in the same tanks as fish... doesnt mean you should :)

Id stear clear tbh! If you like crabs do lots of research and set up an invert-only nano-marine aquarium.

Most crabs labeled as freshwater is that they really need brackish to thrive, or need to be rotated between fresh and brackish environments. They can suvive in pure freshwater for a while, but won't live as long. Bunjiweb is right, the LFS here have a few varieites of crabs in land/water setups and they always spend a lot of time on land.

Ok, thanks.. I'd probably like the idea of having a half water, half land tank. Would probably have to be very deep, and i wouldnt need it as wide. I found some links of half water/half land tanks, they look great.
They're called Aqua-Terraniums.

Might set one up, as for the filter in the water, would it be cycled like a normal fish tank (that section of water). Cheers.
EDIT: Click on tank set ups, then aqua-terraniums
