small cichlid

All my tetra's are dying. If I cant get the problem solved, I was going to cycle the tank and try a small cichlid pair. Is there any that a 10 gallon tank could hold? I just would like two small fish to show off. Plus I am falling for cichlids. Thank you for any help.

i have a male and a female convict cichlid in a 10G they seem to be doing fine. my female layed some eggs, she wont let the male come near, she tells him whos boss lol.

You could try a couple of Keyholes. They shouldnt get past about 4 inches which complies with the old '1 inch of fish per gallon' rule of thumb. Best thing would be like the other guy said and find a good Cichlid site that gives max sizes and go from there. Have fun!

you could choose from a variety of apistogramma species..You could probably put 2 pairs since these species don't grow past 2 inches....

Apistos, a krib or 2, nannacara pair, Bolivian rams, blue rams,Laetacara dorsigera, Laetecara curviceps
. Not a cichlid but badis badis are very colorful and are often called chameleon fish for obvious reasons. They also act and look like cichlids

i have a pair of kribs in a 10 gallon, and a pair of cons in a 10 gallon...

the kribs arent breeding, but the cons are... so if you want something thats gonna breed you could try cons.. but youd have to find somewhere to give/sell the babies....

bolivian/german rams also will breed, and are small (germans smaller)

hmm . . . . . . . thats about all i can think of... cons arent very colorful, but they have personality.. never had rams, but they dont look too intelligent to me LOL.. kribs are kinda smart, and are cool colored too....

Rams are smart, most NW cichlids and river cichlids are. My opinion so don't bash me please

Convicts in a 10 gallon tank is temporary, they will outgrow it, and you will have fatalities at some point in the future.

Dwarf Riverine species (rams, kribs) and African shell dwellers are our only real options.

Thank you all. After you insights and some research, I have decided to go for the kribs. All i have to do now is find them. Nobody around has any.
