I'm going to avoid chain quoting here.
With the design of the Fluval U's its almost impossible to direct it against glass without ruining the ability for fish to swim in that section of the tank. The angle nozzle barely works and I can understand his frustration, if it was a U1 you do actually have a power flow adjust but theyre not powerful at all anyway.
I think restricting flow via media is probably the best option in this instance.
