Slime Algae-maracyn

Yes, you must ensure you are not injecting CO2 during the blackout.

Good luck!

Just to answer the original question. I bought Maracyn from ebay in the U.S.

I have actually done that too-havent got it yet, and the blackout seems more sensible start. How long did it take for your Maracyn to arrive? Did it get held up in customs?

72 hours of blackout and the BGA has gone!! Yippee.

Dont mention it, anytime!!

Thanks Zig and others for their help in getting rid of this. This forum has been a life saver. The substrate looks as new as when it went in. So it's a big water change today and starting with the EI. Solutions all ready to go!
It's interesting to see how the plants reacted to the blackout. I thought they'd all look a bit sad, but they look pretty good. My Dwarf sag, which didn't seem to want to root, (probably not helped by keep uprooting it as I sucked out the BGA) has sent out runners. The riccia looks fine, and other plants, some look a bit leggy, but they have sent out shoots everywhere.

One unfortunate side effect is that covering up the tank so well, with no room for air circulation has warped my wooden lid-so I now have an entire bookcase of books sitting on top to hopefully bend it back!
