So last night one of my original female Molly's gave birth last night. ( happy days most people would say ) but she showed no sign of having the baby's last night before I went to bed at 11:30 pm plus she wasn't squared off enough I thought plus she was still very active.

So I've come down this morning to check on how things are and shes totally flat and zipping around like a looney plus all the males in my tank are trying to get their wicked way with her including the wild guppies !!!

I can't find any fry so I'm assuming they've been eaten which I'm peeved off about as I wanted to find out who got her preg and I wanted to see what coloured fry I'd have. So least to say I'm not impressed in the slightest

Sad news

I had about 35 Gold Ram fry in my tank yesterday and came down this morning to only about 7 left. I think they got sucked up into the filter

sorry to hear your loss and its wound me up as i thought she must be ready to drop any time as ive had my males in the tank atleast 5-6 weeks and ive been watching her every day for last week hoping to catch her out before she drops, typical that i would miss it

just frustrates me as she didnt give me any signs that she was going to pop last night

oh well im sure this wont be the last time this will happen,

Even more annoyed now as she's done the exact same thing last night. She's all slimmed off and I can't find any fry so unles they're hiding and I can't see them then theyve also been eaten.

It is bad luck when it gives birth late night or when your out :( and i would say the females stomach would flaten when it give birth to about more then 10 fry

Edit: keep your eye on your tank if you see any fry like my female guppy gave birth 6 days ago and i can still see a fry under moss ball still surviving and i did see another fry being chased around :good:

Forget bad luck and similar sentiments. We control what happens in our tanks. When you have a good idea of what female is ready to drop, you know where to place the surplus of java moss or najas grass, whichever you are using, to preserve lots of fry. Make sure that your young adults and juveniles are well fed and the new fry will do just fine.
