Glass 12mm

I noticed a slight bow in the front pane which equates to an 16th of an inch.
There’s no bracers.
Can anyone tell me if I’m being paranoid?

Thanks

ian

The tank is made from 12mm thick glass so it should be fine without support strips and cross members.

Normally aquariums that are 2 foot high are made from 10mm thick glass if they have support stripes and braces, and 12mm if they don't. Your tank should be fine but if you have concerns, contact the supplier and ask them. If you're really concerned, you could glue a cross member from front to back and that should fix any bowing in the glass.

I suspect the manufacturer allowed for 1/16th” of a bow in the glass, otherwise the glass would be very fragile.German engineering and all that hahaha.

When a man with great knowledge says it’s fine,it’s fine.

cheers the noo colin

Can’t really make it out,but it has a glass strip running along the inside.
Might as well ask what that’s for while I’m here.

The glass srtrip is a bracer, called a euro brace. There should be a corresponding one on the back wall.

Euro braces are also handy for holding cover glasses. My tank (custom built) has them on all 4 sides of the tank - and cover glasses.

The piece of glass on the inside near the top is for coverglass but also gives added strength to the front and back panels of glass. It helps stop the front and back from bowing out as much.

As to why they added support strips but not a cross member is beyond me. In Australia we have support strips and cross members, or nothing. They could have made that tank cheaper if it was 10mm thick glass and have a cross member.

Having 12mm thick glass with support strips but no cross member is just weird.
