Slate

Where's the best / cheapest place to get slate from? I can't remember seeing any in my LFS, but may have overlooked it. Garden centers?

Does it need anything doing (scrubbing, cleaning, etc..) before I can put it in my tank?

are you looking for lumps of it or flat bits?

we bought big lumps from a local landscaping company and attacked it with a club hammer and a bolster.... we got a mixture of the above

Give it a quick scrub to get any dust and dirt off it and your off

I go to Wales and help myself its free there and there loads of it

I remember when i was a kid we used to live in a house with a hill for a back garden, when they pulled out enough to make a patio area roughly 13ft by 10ft and 10ft deep had to pull out over 25 tonnes of slate

In plymouth there are loads of places to get it for free

My LFS sometimes has slate in stock... not in stock at the moment though, and I need it now!

Buidsers yard will be cheaper than lfs.

garden centres have huge amounts and normally a lot cheaper than LFS. My LFS sells it at about £2 KG. Wyvalle Garden centre next door to it sells lumps at £3.50 each no matter which bit. Some of them must weigh over 20 KG ie 3 ft long bits by 10 inch deep and about 14-16" across

even B&Q Do it all etc etc should do them int here garden section
