Hello

This my be a stupid question :stupid: but can i put normal roofing slate in my tank (but giving it a good wash before i do) will it be ok?????

I'm pretty sure you can put most rocks from where ever into your tank as long as you boil them first. This will kill any bacteria or pathogens. Also prob would need to give a good scrub to remove and dirt or grime on the tiles

i have a badger skull in my tank which i cleaned bleached and boiled and even thats been fine. all the rocks in my tank i got in my garden too and they've never been a problem

I just find pet stores are a rip off  when it comes to ornaments and stones
Just finished adding alot of slate to our 10 gallon, bought it for $2 a lb which i didn't think was that bad :)

Doesn't slate have sharp edges, which the fish may inhure themselves on? Perhaps this is inly an issue for Oscars, which I gather are prone to rubbing themselves on anything and averything in the tank. I am in the process of setting up an Oscar tank, and have been advised to steer clear of slate.

yep slate is brilliant for the tank. I recommend going to your local garden centre, they should sell big lumps of the stuff for a coupla quid each and they look great in a tank!!

Tell me you havnt got that 10gal tank for 1 betta and a frog. Man, you betta lovers are weird ;) . Dont see the appeal myself. Anyway, each to their own.

:good:

Hey now the Betta is more the ladies than mine :D . Once the holidays are over and I can do a huge plant purchase another ADF and a few small shoaling fish will be added.
