Skunk Loach

You'd be surprised how aggressive fish can be when it comes to territory and loaches are no exception.

A fish doesn't have to be big to become territorial. I have known 4 month old Malawi fry to be territorial because it is in their nature.
I'm trying to give you helpful advice, not just for your benefit but also for the fish. It is down to you whether you listen or not.
Just remember, it's not you who's taking the chance though, it's your fish that are at risk.

cool I might get one in the future then , thanks

BOOOOM!

And we're back in ignoring advice territory. Loach need to be in groups.

In one website, it said one or atleast five will be fine.

I'll tell you now from experience of many types of loach. If they are in lower numbers than 5 they will harass any other fish in your tank. I've had clown loach kill guppies, yoyo loach mauling my keyholes and chain loach that chased and pecked at anything that moved. And that's the 'peaceful' ones. Skunk loach ARE aggresive. 1 or 5 is fine in a tank on their own or with a group of quick moving small tetras etc.

Dont make the mistake of ignoring advice because you think you know better. The internet is full of pages that are full of rubbish! This site isn't one of them.

Ok so if I put 5 skunks together they will be fine with my other fish?

no.
they are not community fish.
at the risk of repeating myself
only keep skunk botias in a species only tank or with conspecifics.

I kept a group of 12. trust me they are not community fish

I've got two skunks in a (US) 55 gallon with angelfish(2), corys(3), kuhlis(3), neons(6), mollies(3), dwarf gouramis (2)and one big ol' dragon gobi (queue: stocking critiques from the experts) and in my experience, the aggressiveness of the skunks is directed only toward each other. Yes, they are aggressive, but in my observations of my fish in my tank . . . it has been solely intra-species aggression.

Most of the time they hide in a big hollow tree stump. Occassionally, they'll get wound up and chase each other around it a few times (clicking like crazy, which is kind of weird) and then they'll settle back down until it's time to do it all over again.

So, that's been my experience, for whatever that's worth.

and that was my experiance too for a few years, then they matured and got worse.
but what they hey, you'll find out in your own time

Just to add my 2 cents i had a group of 5 in my community with at the time rummynose, 1bnp, 2 clown loach, 2 opaline gouramis, 2 flying fox, and let me tell you those dwarf sidimunki (spelling?) were a pain in the rear end. Constantly chasing my other fish all around the tank apparently trying to nuzzle the side of each fish' gills. Now i never noticed if it was aggressive, it certainly didnt look it but they were persistent and never let up. They were crazy fish that i can only liken to a jack russel after a rabbit :p

Certainly concider carefully if there something you wish to add to your tank, also they're a pain to catch again because there fast as lightning when they want/need to be.

Well I've thought very hard and I have come to the conclusion that I will buy 6 Skunk Corydoras instead.Just as cute but peaceful, thanks for your help guys! :good:
