hi my platty female seems to have lost alot of weight, she was always very small and i was shocked when she gave birth as she looked extremmly slim, however since shes given birth she has got even skinnier and now idnt a usuall platty shape her stomach goes inwards, and she looks very tatty, theres no marks on her that ive noticed her gills are pink but they always seem to have been that way. i would ask if its normal but i know its not, could this just be a deformaty? or is it an illness as shes looked this way for a while now and not got any worse, none of my other fish are ill although i am having problems keeping my ph from going acidic. ill put pics up tommorrow but in the mean time if anybody has any ideas they will be greatfully received!

Did you leave the fry in the tank with her or did you remove them after she gave birth?
What size tank is she in?
How many other tank mates are in with her?
What types of tankmates are in with her?

My friend has had problems with platies doing this too lately. They get very skinny and look sickly but show no physical signs except for being skinny.

Does she eat?

she does eat, i took the babies out well, rescued one from the first lot and 1 from the second, dot think she was giving birth to many, the ones i rescued could have been the only ones as she was tiny to start off with, she never really interacted with the other fish before giving birth as not really after, she could have been ill when i got her tbh as she came in the group of fish that introduced whitespot to my tank. shes in the tank with 2 mickey mouse platty 2 red platty 2 molly 6 tetra and a small chineese algea eater (its not aggressive) and a few older molly and platy fry, tank is over stocked at the mo as homes that are taking my fry arent ready for them yet.
she has today started to show signs of being ill/ possibly giving birth agian but cant imagine it being that as she is way to skinny.

Possibly consider isolating her and treating her with a bacterial medication. This often cures problems when a fish acts like this. As long as she is eating she should be okay, it's when they stop eating you worry more.

Does she seem to "shimmy" in the water at all?

not really its a bit of a loner just hovers round the back of the tank, not really doing much, well it did i spent 10 mins looking for her this morning and cant find her. i was going to try anti bacterial med but my fry would have had to go in the main tank then and some of them werent big enough. if i can find her and she is alive i will try, is it likely that the whole tank will need treating or is not not something that gets passed on?
