Skimmer And Wet/dry filter question

Skimers....what are they for, what do they do, why do you need em?

and the same questions about wet/dry filters, plus, what's the difference between a regular filter and a wet/dry?

Skimmers are for the removal of disolved wastes and excess nutrients. Some people believe the foam you find washed up on shore after a storm is the same process, but it would remove VERy little compared to the volume of water in the ocean!

There are several systems people run in their tanks to make the use of a protein skimmer un-neccessary. Basically natural systems like sumps and deep sand beds etc. But other people would swear by using one. I never did and i was fine.Im looking at running a SW with a sump, live rock, and deep sand bed soon. So i wont be using one!

As for wet dry filters.....maybe someone else could answer that one for you.... Lol
