Okay, juswt want to place my order online for the skimmer for my 2 ft cube. (165 l) plus 60 l sump.

Now i was in a shop earlier and the guy was trying to get me to buy a Hydor Performer 550 which just seemed overkill for me. I said no, and he said I may just about get away with a 450. Which still seems silly to me when my tank is 200l all in, and that skimmer is rated for 400-500 litres with high stocking.

He was pretty scathing about the V2s which I was tempted by, saying they were rubbish and would break down within 6 months.

Anyway, what skimmers would people recomend? I want something decent, but I don't want to pay silly money for no real reason.

Also while I am asking about equipment, I have a Koralia 2800 at the moment, and I want to add a second powerhead. Would a Koralia 1600 be good enough or should I get twin 2800s? With a 1600 I will have a total flow of 4400 litres per hour (26x turnover) with 2 2800s I would have 5600 lph (34x turnover.)

Edit: 2 foot cube not 3 foot!

I'd go for a bubble magus nac6 if it were me - £180 via a retailer or £110 via ebay (assuming customs doesn't see the package )

It depends on what you want to keep as to flow :)

You could get a deltec mce 300 or a red sea prizm delux ive heard good reviews about the deltec.

I want a nice pile of rock, pouring down from one corner, around 15-20 kilos. Starting with fish, then aiming to move to soft corals, then eventually hard corals. (Over time, I am not trying too much too soon.)

But I want the skimmer etc to be ready for whatever I decide later, so better safe than sorry.

In which case 25x will be enough for softies and LPS. The BM nac6 is rated to 600l so will have plenty of capability for now and the future.

Simon

Cheers for the info guys. I think I will avoid the hang on skimmers as they would require moving my tank. (Only by a few cms, but that would still mean emptying it etc.)

I am very tempted by that bubble magus. Think I'll check a few more reviews then probably place an order.

I'll order one tomorrow for delivery wednesday. That way my tank will be ready for LR on the weekend.

Can't wait.

James, tank is looking good. Here's my thread about it...
