My male blue platy is sitting at the bottom. Body looks perfectly normal (I tweaked him to move so I could see), breathing seems normal.

I'm fearing another loss approaching and feel helpless.

Advice????

how long have you had him, most livebearers live about 1 1/2 years, by the time you got it it was probably close to 6 months old. Have you checked the ammonia/nitrite/nitrate readings?

Surely this can't be right. 1.5 yrs for platies?

Anyway, ammonia and nitrites are 0.

All others (platies and 3 tetras) are seemingly happy.

1 1/2 yrs for platties sounds right to me in my experience m8 ;)

hmmm...

then the losses I've had have been normal? if you buy em when they are 1 you only get 6 months?

18 - 24 months is the normal life span of most livebearers and ive recently lost most of my stock of Swordtails Platties etc etc as they were at least 12 months old when i got them with a secondhand setup :D

So yes i would say that 18 mths aint half bad m8 ;)

Yeah, well, I only had this one 3-4 months.

Gonna have to start buying younguns

Yup thats the trick buy em young and grow em on lol

Where you - I have platty, swordtail and guppy fry that I would love to get rid of - just come and get 'em :)

I'm in Chicago.

I'm not sure the airlines allow one-way tickets anymore, even for fish.
