Ok, so I've got some cucumber I thought I'd put in the tank to feed my bulldog pleco, (if he's interested), but what can I use to hold it down? Would a teaspoon or something similar shoved through it be ok?
Also do you peel it or just slice a chunk off and put it in?

A spoon or fork works fine. If you cut it lengthways, you can put a rock on one end - I usually use that for lettuce, and a fork for cucumber or zucchini.

I chop off a chunk and slice in half lengthways. I have one of these 'screwcumber' thinkgs that you literally screw into the cucumber skin and it weights it down, works great! I got mine off ebay, think it was about £4 for 2 of them.

I use a plant weight in my cucumber I just spear it through

use lead weights from plants, or just slice them about 1" thick and chuck um in - the fish will find it, although mine always leave the peel so remove that if you want, and i tend to remove all after a few hours, otherwise it gunks your tank up.

Thanks for all the useful replies everyone, seems everyone has their own way :)

Well I went and checked the cutlery drawer, then tried to imagine the other halfs reaction when they saw a piece of our best sitting at the bottom of the tank..... quickly decided against that :p
Then remembered I had some loose stones, so rummaged around for one of those, found one, then realised that they were from way back when I used to keep a tank, and I wasn't actually sure what sort of stone it was, or how I'd connect the cucumber :p

Finally my sleepy old brain reminded me I had a collection of the little 'root pots' that you get live plants in, and that I'd remembered seeing ceramic type ring in the bottom of them. Now got 2 of them in my tank with bits of cucumber wedged through them, so I shall see what the corys think, and if the bulldog pleco wants to pay them any attention :)

Thanks again!

i use a cucumber clip i bought from the lfs,i stick it to the inside of the glass so i can watch my plec eat it lol.

I use spare sucker clips you use to secure you airline in your tank, chop cucumber into chunks and stick on.

How about one of those cheaply bought algae sraper cum planters? Those with a little replaceable plastic scraper at one end and a planting fork at the other on a thin metal pole. Just spear the fork end through the cucumber and prop it in a corner of your tank. With luck it makes for easier removal too after a few hours (as you should) :good:

I bought a handy little beastie called a screwcumber.

You thread your veggies onto it, plonk it in the tank and your lil' critters will have HEAPS of fun chomping on non-floaty veg!!

;)

screwcumbers are great and cheap i think there one of the best value things i have bought off ebay i always peel and score my veggies so that everyone can get a look in before my royal decides to shred it
