okay, simple question

Can i turn of my powerhead at night when the lights are off?

will this induce more algae because the lights are off i thought this will be okay, as this powerhead produce's pretty much all my flow around the tank

filters will stay on so tank is still filtered just the bulk of the flow around the tank for distributing co2 and ferts

i watched my fish when i turned the powerhead off for an hour or two the other day and noticed most of the fish where more active more willing to come out even the ones i never see came out of the greenery so not sure if the sound of even the flow it self is making the scared or not liking it who knows :)

Yes mate there is no reason why you cant turn it off at night.
This wont encourge algae as the lights will be off, and so will the co2, so really there is no real reason why it should stay on all night:)

mint i guess il go out and buy a new timer tomo then :D haha

Good question! I was thinking of doing the same with mine, give the fish a break over night :)

yes that is what i thought, also i notice most of my plant's get ripped up at night maybe if the flow was less it wont happen as much :)

I used to have mine on a timer, but when it was off a couple of times a shrimp decided it would make a good hidey hole......

I use a Vortech MP-40 in my tank and it has a setting for night time that cuts the pump to half speed and turns off the pulse. As long as the tank remains oxygenated there's no reason not to give the fish a break.

hm glad you remembered that my powerhead is also giving me surface movement keeping the fish alive hm i have a spare 900 maybe i can put that in pointing at the surface therefore the fish will not be affected but create enough surface movement for o2 :)

When I had my 50 gallon tank I two sizes of power head and had them on timers. The nighttime ones were much smaller but pointed very much at the surface.
