Simease Fighter

hi guys,

i want to buy a simease male fighter for my 5ft tank but i have angel fishes in there so i dont think thats a good idea? is there some kind of devider or box thing i can put in my tank for just my simease to swim around in, because in fish shops they be in little box size things which leads me to think that they dont need much space?

You would be better off just getting a small tank for your betta, such as a 12 x 12 x 12" cube. I don't have much experience with bettas, apart from them being quite aggressive with other long-finned fish such as guppies and other Anabantoids.

thing is i dont want to purchase another tank, was wondering if i could just purchase some kind of open box container for the simease, if anyones done this or not

There wouldn't really be any point in adding a small enclosure for it.

Yes, tank dividers are available - but you would need to check that the water level is a bit below the top of the dividing panel because Bettas have a habit of jumping (or even sliding sideways) across the divide!

Some people split a large tank into several smaller sections - e.g. a 3ft tank can be split into 3 sections using 2 dividers. Your 5ft tank could be split into a 4ft/1ft combination.

Also, it might be a good idea to put lots of plants either side of the divider so that the Betta does not get stressed out from seeing the Angels swimming next door. The less stress the better because stress leads to illness in fish.

Make sure your Betta is not confined to too small a space - just because they put them in tiny boxes or jars in the shops doesn't mean it's the best way to keep a Betta. Give him a decent amount of swimming room.

I've got mine in a 12x12 cube.

Do you know if pets at home sell them mate?

After a one for my betta so i can add some angels to my big tank

Sorry, no - I bought it from my LFS. I'm sure if you go into your LFS and tell them what you want they will be able to order one in if they don't have any in stock. Not sure if you can get them on ebay...

They are just the right size to put a small bubble filter and heater in, too.

If you don't want another tank, get a plastic divider - i got mine from DP fishways. It just slides into the tank, that way you can keep a betta in the same tank as your other fish without any repercussions. If you can have another tank, i'd go for that option though - make your betta tank a showpiece! Pop over to the Betta forum as there are some breeders on there who have some amazing fish to sell, much more beautiful than your typical LFS betta.
