Hi, can some one tell me how to tell female and male of my silver shark. One is rather large the other slightly smaller.
thanks in anticipation.

Do you happen to know the scientific name of your shark? When I googled it, I came up with around 10 different species that use that common name. If you don't know the scientific name, could you post a picture so we can ID it?

I think they are called Balantiocheilos Melanoptrus. Theu are so beautiful. shiny silver with black edging on their fins. Hope this is helpful as i really want to know if i have a pair.
Thank you.

What you have is commonly referred to as a Bala Shark, they are not actually sharks, but are from the family Cyprinidae. They are a schooling fish that should be kept in groups of 3 or more, and there is no record of them breeding in home aquaria. They also get quite large and require at least a 6-foot tank. Here some more information on them.
