Over night my Silver tipped shark has developed what seems to be a yellow fungal growth on its left side. It lost its balance also and is doing barrel rolls around the tank. Could this be Velvet?

Are the growths in small sized clumps or spots on it's side or just one large mass? If so, it could well be velvet. If this is the case treat with an anti-velvet medicine. I believe that in severe cases keeping the aquarium light off is beneficial in eradicating velvet, but I'd need a second opinion on that because I'm not 100% sure if this works.

It's in one large clump. I've also read that keeping the light off is beneficial in getting rid of it, so I will do that. Thanks for the fast reply!

No problem. Just make sure that you use the medication to complement having the light off as that won't cure it by itself. A good water change would go some way in helping too. Is it a definite yellow or a slight off white? If the latter, could it potentially be cotton-wool disease?

It's a definite yellow. I'm on my way to the store to pick up some medication for it now. :good:
