I dont really think it will be the water params. But that depends on how many scales are missing.

If you have some sharks, chasing could lead to injury. I know in my old community my bala lost 3 scales from a sharpish rock i had, so i removed it.

Make sure there is nothing in the tank that could really damage your fish. Balas especially when spooked "jump" and sprint around at high speed, so make sure you have lids also.

Just checking tank size with the shark, and no your tank isn't big enough, they need massive tank, losing scales happens, nothing to worry about if they have caught them on ornaments or gravel.

I agree...fast swimmers and they can nail themselves on edges in the tank. Just be mindful, although losing a few scales may not hurt them, having an open wound may predispose to disease. Keep an eye on those areas. SH

My old balas were occasionally injured from being startled and lost scales, gouged their heads, bodies etc. Some Stress coat added to the water helped them heal.

Don't worry about small injuries or scale losses if the fish is otherwise looking and acting normal.
