I am thinking of making my 100g into a community tank. I would love to put some neons in the there, put I got a feeling they would just be expensive fish food for my SD's. True or False?

I don't think that they are fish eater, All I know about SD is that they are notorious plant eaters...they could grow up to 6", but I'm not sure if they would eat neons like some wild caught angels would do????....

Definately yes.

I put 12 neons in with my dollars and the next day I had 8, no bodies or skeletons or anything. I've also had a couple of small barbs go missing, again no bones, nothing! I evacuated the neons to another tank, but have since had to give my dollars away :byebye: as I made a newbie mistake and put them with my Discus, not a problem when they are 2cm, but when they get 5 inches it's a different story.

Sorry, I didn't mention, as you probabbly know they are in the same familiy as the Pirahna and do look quite like them. In a book I have it say something like '' normally considered to herbivores, but sometimes suspected of having carnivorous tendencies like the pirahna''.

It's simply the big fish small fish thing, a neon would easy fit into a dollars mouth. And they love meat, they go mad for bloodworm.

Yes, and they mowed down all my plants nicely... :/ lol, they showed sell them under the name "Lawn Mowers". Mine are about 3-4 inches. I'll probably just put them in with angels or barbs (either or of course, never both)

silver dollars will eat your neons for sure. I have mine with convicts and an oscar. The silver dollars eat guppies just the same as the oscar an cons. They eat convict fry and babies. I have also seen them eat convicts two large to swallow. The just slowly chew them up, rotating releasing grabbing again and again until gone.

Yep, they're mainly lawnmowers, but like with most fish, they'll eat anything that will fit in their mouth.

We had a trio of adult silver dollars years ago that ate anything guppy sized or smaller that went in the tank.

Sadly they died during a power-cut when we were away.

my sd's havent eaten the other fish in the tank but that doesnt mean they wouldnt. Mostly they keep to themselves. I think the danios out run them, the loaches hide, the gouramis are too big and they just ignore the otos. If someone ever turns up half eaten I'll know who to blame though :p

That is so funny because I've had 6 SDs, counting the ones now, and NONE of them would even touch an egg!!!

I guess it may just be the SD you pick!??? :dunno:

My biggest one is a little over 6 inches long and he'd never even think of nipping on another fish, just isn't in him. But I've also never put something as tiny as a neon in my tank either. I'd be afraid of my Angel sending them all to heaven!!

:X Stupid joke, I know :*)
