I have some clown loaches, RTB shark, Bala sharks, neons, Pleco's, and im looking to add some silver dolars, i was just wondering if they were compatible with the fish i have already and would they be happy amongest them, i have a 300 liter tank.

SD's would make a great addition to your tank.

Just remember:

1. Schooling/Shoaling fish, buy 3+

2. Bala, SD and pleco will all grow very large

3. SD's will eat any small fish, so buying them will take away any options in the future for little fish (tetras...)

They should be fine, i recomend adding at least 5 as they are more confident in a larger group.

I think they will also be fine.

Good Luck!!

Oh, and I've personally never heard of SDs actually eating small fish, maybe fry fish. I know lots of literature says so, but no one I know has ever witnessed it :dunno: Just my .02

I have 2 Silver Dollars in with my balas, tiger bars, and clown loaches. All of mine get along great. I plan to move my silver dollars and balas into a 55g tank within the next few weeks though and add a few more of each. They pretty much eat anything, but mine seem to like flakes and shrimp pellets.

i had two SDs for a long time, they were very peacful and didnt bother any other fish in my tank. They did however devour my plants!

SD's plant eating capacity has to be seen to be believed.

I like how CFC puts it:

"They are vegetarian lawn mowers!"
Actually the term i use is "aquatic lawn mowers" but vegetarian works as well

I recently conducted a experiment with my SDs to see which plants would survive best with them, all the plants were added at the same time and rommaine lettuce was offered as well, these are the results.

Cryptocoryne crispatula; lasted 3 days before completely disapearing over night

Amazon sword plant species; nibbled on the first day but then left alone until being reduced to a stub on the 5th night.

Vallisneria species; 2 bunches planted, both have been attacked and reduced severely but there is still some stems remaining after 2 weeks.

Java fern on a small piece of bogwood; most leaves show signs of being nibbled but so far they seem to have avoided actually eating the plant.
