I'm not as much of a beginner as I used to be, but here is a really daft question.

Now.. i know that if i have a bucket on the floor, stick a bit of tubing in the tank and the other end down by the bucket, give the tube a bit of a suck til the water starts flowing, then the water will continue to flow into the bucket. ( i do this for water changes so im comfortable with this. ;) )

anyway...

I may re-doing my tank a bit, and i was told that i should remove all the water, then put the water back in when i am done. So.. i either get 18 buckets and stick 10 litres in each, or get a bucket or bin and suck most of the water out into one.

but.. what is the easiest way to get the water back in.. im not going to be able to lift the thing up (without worrying the missus and the non-waterproof TV too much) , and i can't image the sucking on the hose thing works too well with the water going uphill... so.. do i have to scoop it out in bucket loads, or use a mini pump of some sort.....

If i'm just being daft, feel free to flame me.. i don't mind, im feeling a little thick on this one already.. hehehe

Cheers

assuming the tank will hold the weight the above answer will work. If not then get 2 people one holds the bucket above the tank, one holds the pipe in the tank and voila.

you can get very low cost pumps now, that will do the job. i saw one in a £1 shop that fits to a electric drill. though a little more cost will get you a hand pump, that will do the job fine.

Get a cheap small submersible water pump made for fish tanks and some tubing. Pump only cost like $5 at some places. Just plug it into an outlet and let it pump away. You can also use this pump to pump water out from the tank into buckets too. No more mouth sucking dirty aquarium water that may contain parasites.

These kinds of submersible pumps are very popular for saltwater tanks because they are actually used for the wet/dry filter and placed in the sump to pump filtered water back into the tank.

Not related to the question asked, but I have found the best way to get a siphon going it push most of the tube into the tank, put your thumb on the end and pull it out. No getting a mouth full of water, yuck!

Haha GREAT advice!! I've never even thought about that. :good:

Oh one other thing I forgot to mention. Most submersible pumps cannot be run dry so when you see the level of water inside the bucket getting low, turn off the pump and refill it with clean water then turn the pump back on. Keep doing this until your tank is full and you're done.
