Silly Question About Macs

World of Warcraft can only run on a PC unless you are a computer genius and use emulators and create virtual hardware.

OSX to me is over simplified. Linux is over complicated. Windows is juuuuuust right. (for me) People just don’t like Windows because it is popular and a lot of people use it. People want to be unique and this drives them away from it.

AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT LISTEN TO THE MAC COMMERSIALS ON THE TV. THEY ARE A LOAD OF BULL!

Wow, so much misinformation.

First, there is a Mac version of World of Warcraft, so if by "computer genius", you mean "able to install a program", then yes.

Second, OS X can actually be as simple as you need it to be (for a lot of novice computer users, this is very important), or as complicated as you want it to be. Its command line interface is pretty much FreeBSD, so it's actually very closely related to the "over complicated" Linux.

Finally, the Mac commercials may not be 100% accurate, but they are effective.

does MSN Messenger work in Linux?

It can work in one of two ways. You can use Gaim which will allow you to communicate as if using MSN, or you can run MSN through WINE.

Finally, the Mac commercials may not be 100% accurate, but they are effective.

Actually, some of the initial feedback and analysis of the adverts is somewhat mixed. In the UK it may actually have had a backwards effect where many consumers consider the Mac person to be too smarmy. One of my favourite parodies is this.

actually, most of my friends don't like the Mac guy either :p i personally find them quite amusing.

i haven't looked at your link yet, Andy, so this may be the same thing, but have you seen the Wii vs PS3 parody? it's hysterical.

I just read through this thread again and it came to me this time what you were asking picca!

I thought you wanted to know if you could install windows on a mac machine, some how I totaly missed that you were asking about installing OSX on a PC. I know nothing about that, but as andywg has stated it is possible.

I am a converted mac user, just bought my first one last week when I fried my PC. I had to wipe the hard drive twice in one year because of all the malware I kept picking up that my antivirus and antispyware wasn't handling. I have friends and family that use OSX and have for years, they have never had any real problems outside of the usual wear and tear of hardware components; I'm hoping for the same.

I will tell you however that there is a huge difference in the speed of my new mac powerbook when compared to my old pc laptop. It is at least twice as fast as my mothers new dell laptop that is configured with a faster processor and equal RAM.

I'm loving it. Starts up and is ready to go in well under 10 seconds! That was by single biggest pet peeve with XP is that it takes so long to boot up.

I did not know that they made a WoW version for MACs.

No reason to troll me though.

Any commersial that insults another company just to made a few more bucks is below the belt to me; furthuring it stretches the truth.

I said "I didn't know that". Saying something with miss-intent is right on the line; as quoted "First, there is a Mac version of World of Warcraft, so if by "computer genius", you mean "able to install a program", then yes.". Give it a break andywg. You don't have to be aggressive all the time. Im not the only one who thinks this.

Actually, I didn't post the phrases above that you take to be trolling, but don't let the actual facts get in the way of your posting. :D
