I want to make a cave out of PVC and some rocks. I was wondering, do you have to use aquarium silicone? We have some that you squirt out of a caulking gun. Would that work?

As Cichlidmaster says, make sure it's labled as "Aquarium Safe". With anything else you may be running the risk of chemicals leaching into the tank and harming the fish.

Break down and buy a 5.00 tube of aquarium safe silicon and have no worries killing off many fish. :) I had a 3 ounce tube of that stuff and I did a huge PVC project with it, gluing each and every stone on it one at a time. Over 10 hours of broken up fun, but worth it. work from the bottom up to as the metal tubes crack quite easily as I gound out. I wasted 1/4 of that tube on my hands and still had enough to do all I wanted to do.

Look at the ingredients. The one in the chalking gun has different chemicals than the one used on aquariums. You can buy the silicone for aquariums cheaper at places like home depot and lowes in the paint section near sealents. Costs usually 1/2 the price pet shops ask for and is the same stuff.
