Hi

I'm replacing the under gravel filter in a biorb life 60.

Can someone recommend a suitable silent or very quiet internal filter for a 60 litre tank please?

I've read the Eheim Aquaballs are decent but are they noisy? The tank is pretty close to where we sit so after filtration performance, the noise is important.

Gotta say I'm a big fluval fan myself. Either the old range when you'd want a fluval 2+ or 3+ depending on stocking levels. Or the new U range where a fluval U2 would suit you well.

Equally I've found the superfish aqua flow range to be silent and they come with a spray bar as standard which is nice. The aqua flow 100 would be suitable for your tank.

I agree on the Aquaflow range, I have them in all my tanks, of different sizes. Easy to maintain and very easy to add mature media when using a new one. The only thing is though with the spray bar it's best that the tank has a lid, just to muffle the splashing water sound. :good:

You can adjust where the filter sits with regards to the water line, and you can twizzle the spray bar so that the water ripples but doesn't actually break the surface. It's how I have all of my tanks set up (spray bar or not), I can't stand to noise of air pumps so setting filters up like that keeps my tanks aerated.

I would have suggested a small canister, like the Rena XP1 but a 1000 lph filter is just too much flow in a tiny 60 litre tank. Your fish will have trouble swimming in one place unless you happen to have fish that naturally occur in fast flowing rivers. Goat, does that filter come in something around 500 to 600 lph?

Thanks for the replies, I've ordered a Fluval U2 at £20, they seem to have very good reviews in the main.

i have a u3 in my 100ltr tank and all i can say is that i am very happy with it,it has some good settings on it also and it is very quiet. The u2 would suit your tank well, ebay was the cheapest by far

Sorry Oldman, bit late getting back to you on this one...

Its rated at 1000, which I know my Aborichtys and Pearl Danios love (they currently have a Fluval U4 and Koralia 1 powerhead), but this would really stress out a fish like a Gourami who like in still water.
