Hi guys. Arnie my male Betta has got some holes in his fins. He is a veiltail and has not been in any fights. Also there is nothing sharp in his tank.

Does a Betta's fins get more raggedy as they age?

Cheers

Sometimes a Betta's fins will start to curl as they age, but I've not heard of them developing holes. It is probably related to water quality. Are they spreading? Are there black edges around the holes? If the latter, then it is probably a case of finrot. It could also be some kind of damage.

It could very well be the beginning of finrot.... something I've noticed is that my older bettas become more prone to getting finrot as they age, so age might still be a factor. Their immune systems deteriorate the older they get...

Hi, thanks for your help guys. His water is checking out ok and the holes I thought were there dont appear to be :S However he is getting on a bit so being v careful with his water and am keeping an extra eye on him.

Many cheers
