sigh, worrisome

I'm starting to feel self concious about all these double posts. *laugh*

"Dear Dr Ghoti:

Maybe I should ask The Psychic Fish about this but here goes. Late at night I sometimes hear a strange and alarming "clinking" sound while I am working on my computer. It sounds as if someone (or something) has tapped my Betta bowl with a spoon. Can you think of any explanation for this?
- Andrea, Tukwilla"

Dear Andrea:

The Betta is doing it. Sometimes they get bored and suck on an air-bubble for entertainment. If they are especially talented they can create enough of a vacuum to cause a slight clicking sound which may be amplified by the glass container. Sound travels faster underwater than in air and....well...that has something to do with it, but I can’t remember.

Anyone else ever hear of this?

I just now discovered this thread for the first time and just read thru the whole thing.
How's he doing right now?

Yeah, we have a fantail who does the same kind of thing, loud as hell, you think, how can he make such a noise and watching him all he does it blows a bubble against the glass side quickly!

Sorry to read about your troubles, hope that the little one gets better soon.

I *just* got home from work, and gave him a pellet. He practically lept into my hand. I still have No idea why he was so shocky, before. He made me so heartsick for the last 24 hours, seeing him swim around was a wonderful sight. I gave him two pellets as a reward for being alive (I'm such a lenient 'mother').

I suppose I'll never figure out why he went into such an intense state of shock.

Maybe he saw me eating my halibut steak.

Yeah, it startled me like crazy. Oo I searched all over, and while I found many references to "clicking", I didn't find any threads that even suggested that bettas could be that noisy. I guess the little guy was showing off. He sounded almost frog-like.

Yeah, I'm glad, too. I really don't understand what happened. Everything was following the same routine it's been following for the last, oh, two weeks. We've got great water here, and it's always at least 4 days old when he's plunked into it, and evenso, treated with Jungle Start Right.

I don't get it. Maybe it's just one of those things.
