I moved my fish into a larger tank (10 gallon to 30 gallon) I used the H20 from his old one and the same filter/heater and decorations to try to make it as stress free as possible but it seems like he's a bit freaked. He used to get really pumped when I fed him but since the move (2 days ago) he doesn't want to eat or interact with me. Is this normal and will he be allright? (temp ect) is the same as in his old tank.

Thanks for any advice given

Have you checked the pH? If your tank pH (old water) and your tap pH are significantly different, you could have caused pH shock with the change. Although you kept him in his normal water, you would have added twice as much more to fill he tank so if there is a big difference, you could have raised or lowered the pH quite a bit. Do you know what the pH was in the tank and tap water before you moved him?

no. I have yet to purchase a test strip *slaps wrist*
He came from a main tank where he was removed because he was being bullyed and I made up the remainder of the water in his new tank from that one (10 gallons from his small tank and approx 10 gallons from the main tank and 10 gallons of tap water that was conditioned)

When you get a test kit, get a liquid one (API Master Kit seems to be the most common one on the forum). The strips are quicker but terribly inaccurate. And the liquid kits are really cheaper in the long run.

Or one where you drop a tablet into a test tube of tank water.

Have you done a PH test before because for the best results compare your new test to your old one and use the same type of test as last time. Ya know brand wise. :good:

Sorry I cant be much more help

allright I will go get a ph tester today (a liquid one thank you ^.^)
I just read up on ph shock and now I'm terribly paranoid
Yes I cycled the tank for 2 days before putting him in *worried*

Since you moved the filter from the old tank into the new tank, cycling shouldn't be an issue. You moved most of the bacteria. Any that was left behind on the tank walls, decorations or in the substrate would have reproduced in about 24 hours.

Maybe he is just abit stressed with the move. Is he alone? Check the PH and nitrate and just observe him for afew days. If you dont mind me asking what fish is he? Im sure everything will be fine :good:

He's a Red Bellied Pirahana..he was so happy in his old tank lol, swimming about and interacting with people (swimming up to the glass and looking at you)
I think I may buy some extra plants ect today, I was just thinking with the larger tank he may want more cover area
But I'm going to check the ph as well, I just read up on ph shock and he's not exhibiting signs of stressing over ph but I want to be completely sure
Your advice has been fantastic thanks soo much
(and yes, he's by himself in the tank, his brother was picking on him terribly so like bad children they had to be seperated lol)
