I am currently treating my 10 gal. tank for a mild case of ich. All fish are active and normal with only a few white spots each. Except my red platy. She has clamped fins and is inactive. She's huddled by the heater all day and didn't eat this AM. She is naturally bright red so I can't tell if she has red streaks or is bleeding. She definitely doesn't have any other external signs of disease.

Dropsy? I don't have a hospital tank. I bought a 1 gallon but it's brand new and not cycled. I had another platy die unexpectedly last week. Both this red platy and that platy were from the same store. I'm now afraid this one has whatever that one had. What do I do???

My water parameters are:

temp. 84 (to treat the ich)
pH 7.9
nitrite 0
nitrate 0
ammonia 0.8

Just took the reading after I wrote everything.. Very surprised at ammonia readings... it was 0 two days ago and nitrate was 10. Other than an immediate water change to reduce ammonia, can any of you offer advice for the platy?

I ahd this problem about 3 weeks ago, my platy had clamped fins and stayed in one place all the time so I treated it for fin rot, which worked after 6 days. (It might be different in Canada but here in the UK I used waterlife Myaxzine.

Dropsy is a disease where the fish is so bloated out its as if it will burst.

Thanks. At this point I see no signs of fin rot. I had a fish that had that before. I'll check to see if she's bloated. Just did a 25% water change, she's swimming around again.

Thanks, Wilder, you are like a walking library, man!

She doesn't look like this, maybe it was just the high level of ammonia. Still puzzled by what could be causing that. Maybe overfeeding.

They all seem good now after the water change. Must have been ammonia. :*)

Good that I mean she on the mend, always check water quality first when a fish dosn't look right, good luck.
