Sick Pearl White Molly

Substrate and fake plants really make no difference for your fish. The only time the substrate needs to be something special is sand for digging fish. Just make sure tings in the tank aren't going to have sharp edges where your fish might scrape themselves. Your gravel can be blue, pink, orange...doesn't matter.

Your fish is probably got so many different varieties mixed into it. Calico Platy is what is normally given as a name to Platies that have the black spotting on them.

Normally internal parasites result in fish with white, stringy poo. I'm not familiar with red poo actually. If it were anything like human stool, I would think it had blood in it. There are foods that already have medications in them for parasites and bacteria. I don't mean to sound cruel, but I would buy a lot of expensive medications for this fish. The Maracyn for fin rot is one thing, but other than that you're not likely to fix a bent fish.

If you feel like the fish is suffering, you can euthanize the fish. It should always be a last result, but sometimes it is the best choice. Generally, the most humane way for tropical fish to be euthanized is to put water in the freezer. As it begins to form ice on it, it as at a temperature that will kill the fish instantly from the shock. It's better than just tossing it out of the tank or flushing it down the toilet.

I cant tell if he is suffering, he just looks like he is deformed- but he wasnt before he became ill. The thing is about a yr ago I only had 1 betta in a 10 gallon, he became sick when I changed the water and he became bent too along with the fin rot. The betta was really bad though and died quickly, he was falling apart by the hour!

So I thought getting bent was a symptom of fin rot? It sounds like it may not be, for now I guess I'll leave my molly in th tank because he seems comfortable and still eats well.

Check out this for some more fish diagnosis. I've been fortunate enough not to have to deal with fish diseases much, dealing with ich and fungus once. Maybe there is some more information on your fish's condition here.

This describes it exactly AND come to think if it, some of the gravel from that other tank (from the betta) is mixed in with this one- BUT he is the first to get sick from it since that one fish.

Now I am scared because I dont know if I may have contracted it because I've been touching the water a lot with the changes etc. I feel like Im going to barf from fear....specially because of my kids...

Fish Tuberculosis (Mycobacterium)
S: Fish may lose color and appetite and become hollow-bellied. Fish become lifeless and often crippled–with a bent spine. Fish develop ulcers under the skin and may rupture causing open sores and “pop-eye.â€￾
A: This disease is highly infectious and deleterious. Bacteria can remain living in the gravel to infect other fish when they are weakened. Some success has been achieved by treating infected fish with antibiotics (Oxytetracycline and Kanamycin), although often it is best to kill the fish and put it out of its misery. When removing piscine tuberculosis victims, do so with care, as this disease can be transmitted to humans.

Fish are a lot less hardy than people. I wouldn't worry yourself much, and most of the diseases aren't human communicable. The worst I've had is peeling hands, but keeping your hands in any water that much will do it. :)
