My own place!!! Niagara Falls, Ont.
I just came home to find one of my otos laying at roughly a 80 degree angle towards his back, breathing heavily. I tried to net it because at first I thought it was dead, and then it started swimming erratically. I thought it might be swim bladder, but now it's still laying there kinda funny, almost aiming to suck on the glass.
Any ideas? I thought it might just be sensitive to the water [even though it's an established tank] but the other two I purchased are doing fine.
They are in the 15 gallon with my neons, rams, and cories.
If anyone's concerned about overstocking, I used the calculator in the pinned topic to account for 24" of fish, plus my overfiltering. My test readings have always been perfect.

Water tests:
pH 7.4
Ammonia 0ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
Nitrate 5ppm

Sorry for your loss, nothing you could of done for him anyway, sad.

My little brother bought an otto for his 10 gal and shortly after we put him in the tank he did the same thing yours did. I guess they are very fragil fish who need almost perfect water conditions. It was sad though. :(

i bought two otos not long ago and 3 platys..one oto died and all the other fish did just fine including the other oto..i think they're very sensitive and some are just stronger then others

I think it was just the weaker one, cos it was also the smaller one of the three. The other two are perfectly fine, and are starting to get pudgy bellies. I'm going to try to bring it back on Monday maybe, to get a replacement.
