As most of you know, I've had green water issues for about three weeks. I got tons of advice and opted to keep the lights off most of the time, and do frequent water changes. Up until the past few days my fish have been doing fine. The green water is finally going away but now at least one out of four otos is missing and another one is ill. From what I've read of his symptoms--lying on his back, gasping a little and red around the gills/dark coloring--it sounds like he might have nitrate poisoning. I don't have a nitrate testing kit at the moment but since my plants are growing like mad and the water has been so green, I'm assuming this is what's wrong. Now that the algae is disappearing and I'm doing daily water changes, the nitrate should be going down, yes? Is it possible for my oto to get better or is he doomed?

BTW, ammonia and nitrites are all at 0.

Oh I am so sorry!

What I would do Is Put him in an other tank..or even a bucket make sure the water is the same tempreture as the tank so you dont shock him. This will help alot since there is no nitrate in the new water and just do 50% water changes eveyday. Maybe you should put in some melafix..that might help.

Hope this helped....But it seems like he is near his fate. But theres ALWAYS HOPE!!!

Keep us updated! :)
